Peritoneal dialysis dialysis takes place daily, like our own natural kidney function. Often, patients do not require this type of treatment everyday, however, as it a supplement to their own native function. This type of dialysis helps to preserve what kidney function remains.
Peritoneal Dialysis takes place in your home, most often at night, while you sleep. Your insurance provides a small machine placed at your bedside which performs the dialysis. There are no needles involved nor dealing with blood. You do not require assistance from another person to do this form of dialysis. Our special nurses train you in understanding, effortlessly, the entire procedure.
Peritoneal Dialysis System
During the day you are free to go about your daily life including work, leisure activities like golf, or caring for a family, without wearing a bag or any other indication that you are receiving dialysis.
You will meet monthly with one of our doctors of your choosing, and your home dialysis team which consists of specialized nurses, a renal social worker, and renal dietitian who will work together in that meeting to optimize your results and to prepare you for a kidney transplant, if indicated.
This type of dialysis promotes your independence and enjoyment of life, because you fit the dialysis into what works for you rather than changing your life to accommodate a treatment. This teamwork promotes patient success and satisfaction.
Our Home Dialysis program is the largest in South Florida, and one of the largest in the S.E. United States.
